I have completed many ink drawings similar to this one in style and method of execution, a style I like to call contour ink drawings. This one entitled "Unity Flow" is my favorite, and most successful of these. Here, two forms wrap around and embrace each other, surrounded by an ocean of swirling, spiraling lines. Amidst all the chaos, they "rise above" their circumstances by working in unity.
This drawing began as a very fast light pencil drawing. The idea was to do a preliminary intuitive and expressive sketch, along the same lines as a doodle. The forms were sculpted in ink from this sketch, and the pencil lines were erased. I darkened in and thickened some of the lines for the main forms, to make them the central focus.
