Most of my artworks have a dual meaning. One is literal and representational... what appears on the surface and is readily accessible to the viewer. Images are used that the viewer (and the artist) is familiar with. This part of the duality in "Reflections of the Past" is explored in the previous post.
The other part of the dual interpretation is usually a "hidden" psychological meaning. I use the canvas as a means of expressing repressed feelings and temperaments, beneath the "beauty" of the colors and forms on the surface.
The previous painting "Reflections of the Past" has this psychological meaning. Beneath the surface, there are not only feelings of frustration, loss, loneliness, and despair, but also of hope and peacefulness.
